Beach Walk 600R – Ignoring Muscle

One of my favorite workouts: building the ignoring muscle.

That’s when I tell my brain (and my #2 – see Show #102 for more info) that all is well and they can ignore whatever irritant may be in front of me. Noisy neighbors, office gossip, tics and quirks of friends and family. You get my drift.

How do you workout your ignoring muscle? I do a combination of talking to myself and deliberately moving my attention onto something else.

Beach Walk 599R – Homage to Age

I have not always had the most self confidence.

But I must say the older I get, the more comfortable I am living in my own skin, viewing life through my own eyes, all instead of worrying what others think or how I should perform.

I wonder if this feeling of deep-seated comfort could somehow be passed on, downloaded, or shared with younger people, and if so, how that might transform the world. I personally spent so much energy just managing my worries, many of which at this stage in life I see as utterly trivial!

Maybe the sheer force in numbers and rebelliousness of the baby boomers is transforming the idea that it is more fun to be young. In fact, I do seem to be aware of far more multi-generational friendships than ever before. Is that true for you? Do you find getting older “a good thing”?

Beach Walk 578 – Elephants and Giraffes

My cold came back, and so I am dressed for warmth (NOT fashion!) on this windy morning!

There is the very old email that I received again last week from a very dear friend. Reading it this time I figured out why I didn’t like it. It has that superior, “gottcha!” energy to it, and when examined, is actually based on a grammatical and logic errors. Read it yourself here and note the second comment from “Anon.” This person came to the same conclusions as I did, 🙂 Thinking outside the box is a great concept, but it rarely can be boiled down to something so simplistic and illogical as this little ditty. It just gives consultants a bad name. And really, we do much more useful stuff for our clients than make them feel stupid for not being able to guess the “correct” answer to juvenile, artificial constructs.

Beach Walk 573 – Deeply Oddly True

We watched an episode of The Iconoclasts last night with surfer Laird Hamilton and Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder.

Both are celebrities of course, and they also are living their true natures, deeply and truly. What if permission isn’t required to be yourself? What if the part of us we think is the broken or odd part is actually the truest part? Food for thought for Monday.

Beach Walk 565 – Underdog Defender

If you have TIVO or watch TV at all, you know it is possible to land on something utterly unpredictable.

Hence I found myself drawn into what turned out to be a very old airing of a Heavyweight Boxing Match, Peter vs. McCline. It became clear after only a few rounds that I just want everyone to win or have a preference for underdogs! Which do you favor – winners or losers? Top dogs or underdogs? Tell me more!
