Beach Walk 639R – Kailua Beach Clean-up

Every year the local shop, Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks, hosts a beach clean up. If you fill a bag with collected trash, they’ll give you a coupon for two hours of free kayak rental. We did this episode originally in 2006, and I still really like it, despite the somewhat discouraging reason for being at the beach. OTOH, we have some great music from JRoQ, and I love Shane’s editing too.

So come on down to Kailua Beach this Sunday, help us clean up and get a free coupon for 2 hours on our beautiful bay!

Beach Walk Rewind – 98 Kailua Beach Clean Up

Presenting our first Beach Walks “Rewind” – please enjoy Kailua Beach Clean Up, originally posted as show #98.

I flew in to New York today, and ran out of time to get a show together. Since we have so many new viewers from Akimbo and the publicity around the Vloggies, we decided to rewind back to show #98 – one of our favorites. I hope you enjoy it!

We’re on Akimbo! That is a service that lets you download selected programs from the internet and watch it on your TV. Beach Walks is one of only 8 video podcasts to be accepted!

Beach Walk 99 – #2 Creates Confusion

I don’t think there are #3’s – the #2 just gets easily confused.

h3. About Today’s Show

Jayne submitted a 100th Show Promo and raised a really good point: is there a #3 in addition to the #2? It’s quite easy to hear competing points of view in the midst of all the mental chatter.

I think there is just the #2, though s/he is an expert at being confused, and therefore simultaneously lobbying for opposite action!

h3. About Today’s Show

You’ve probably not noticed the garbage that can accumulate along our beautiful beaches here in Hawaii. Maybe you are seeing the big picture in the videos (plenty of beauty to be sure) or maybe the video is too small.

Nonetheless, we have plenty of trash left by beach visitors and washed ashore from ships alike. Kailua Sailboards sponsored their second annual beach clean up. If you signed up to clean up a stretch of the beach, you could earn two hours of free kayak rental. They provided the bags and were having the trash analyzed afterwards, for the latest in “trash trends.”

In our short walk of about 300 yards, we filled a big kitchen bag with dirty diapers, soda and beer cans of course, lots of plastic, and countless cigarrette butts.

Beach Walk 34 – The Ocean Refuses No River

The rains continue.

About Today’s Show:

I used to think it was a boring cop out to talk about the weather. Alas, here it is front and center for me today. The most extreme has occurred on our neighbor isle, Kauai. You can read more and see photos at kauaiworld.com.

Today’s show is a tour of the trash washing down from the river and in from the sea. I am reminded of the Sheila Chandra song lyrics, “The ocean refuses no river” and indeed the foamy, brown waters are pouring in without a rest. Even Lexi was not allowed in the water today.

Please pick up your trash and put it away safely. The honu and other sea life will appreciate you for it.
