Beach Walk 344 – If you loved me…

The downside of aloha and ‘ohana is that people sometimes use the good feelings to (try and) manipulate you.

As I write the show notes, I realize this idea is bouncing around from here in Hawai’i where I was talking with Jenn of MightyJ and Doctor Trey today all the way to NYC where I was reading Bill’s blog at

It happens not just with friends and family but in business situations too. “If you loved me, you would…” is how it goes in the personal realm. “Can’t you give me a deal…” is the biz version.

Of course it gets down to the energy. Nothing wrong with doing favors for friends and colleagues, but that’s different from the manipulation that comes packed with guilt, pressure, and veiled threats now isn’t it?

Mahalo nui to Chris (Brent’s dad) for filming today while Secret Cameraman was getting an editing lesson online from Bill C. What a great group of guys!

Chris has several sites to check out:

Beach Walk 298 – One Percent Solution

I think there is incredible power in the one percent, if you claim it as your one percent.

It’s a natural human trait to focus on others and what they are doing wrong, whether it’s one to one at work or thinking about world peace. But that takes away our individual power and freedom to be of influence.

Much as my #2 cranky personality fights against it, I would rather accept my own kuleana in a given situation, even if only 1% of the dysfunction is mine. Though it is incredibly tempting to pile on everyone else’s shortcomings, mine are the only ones I can change.

Beach Walk 297 – 5 Things

My friend Jen at Ebb and Flow tagged me for 5 things people don’t know about me.

And in keeping with the flow, I want to mention that Jen was tagged by Faux Press who was tagged by Chris Ritke, who was tagged by Markus Sandy, who was tagged by Josh Leo. It’s a popular thing at the moment.

As Secret Cameraman was editing the show, he told me, “Somehow this ended up being 5 things you love.” So I guess that is one of the main things about me that I learned in this process: I love love. I love loving, I love being loved, I love the pleasures of life.

Lets face it. If you watch this show on a regular basis, you’ve heard lots of my life stories! I don’t have many secrets left. Though I don’t think I have talked about running away to California when I was 17 to look at colleges yet. And if you have things you want to know? Well leave a comment and I’ll be happy to do a Part 2!

In preparing this post though, I learned that the whole 5things was started by someone toying with “viral” marketing. I don’t like the energy of that. And the other thing? It feels a little cliquey (as in who gets tagged and who does not). So please consider yourself tagged if you are reading this. I’d love to know more about you. Make a movie or leave a comment. Tell me something I don’t know, because you know I love learning new things!
