Beach Walk 724 – Pau Hana

This episode was filmed last Friday – what a perfect way to start a week! My friend Eric got some new Hero cameras and mounted them on his canoe. You get a great range of perspectives, and of course Eric’s daughter Kaile, makes an appearance near the end. This is true Hawaiian lifestyle at its best. If you look hard, you’ll see Rox in the background too. You can check out Eric’s Pueo canoe here.

The music in this episode is from our friend Kaimoku, “Honolulu Shuffle.” You can purchase the album here.

Beach Walk 712 – Happy Birthday Dad

I hope you’ll celebrate my Dad’s 85th birthday with us today. He truly merits the medal for survivor, in so many ways. I never knew what an optimist he was the past few years. As he now deals with five (yes 5) different kinds of cancer, that optimism really plays an apparent role. Let’s give a round of applause for Bill Benton and his many contributions to the “Beach Walks philosophy.” You can also watch an interview I did with him last spring in Episode 606.

Hauʻoli lā hānau: Happy Birthday

Beach Walk 711 – Where are my keys?

It’s all so common – we get stuck someplace (like actress Dana Delaney did) and think we are trapped or dependent on someone else to open the way for us. When in fact, we hold the keys, and they are merely in our thoughts, not so much an external reality. Please welcome Tommy Sea as he leaps across 5000 miles to build a new home here in Hawaii – literally and figuratively. His known world is about to change.

Hawaiian Word:
Kī: latch or music
haʻiloaʻa: key to a problem

Beach Walk 699 – Add Options

Bottom line: when you have more options there can be less stress. The flip side is that it takes more time, more consciousness, more energy to discover and create the options And having way too many options can create its own form of stress at the other end of the spectrum. But for now, for today, this episode is about how a parent can give a child a few choices enabling then to be true to their inner quirky self without having to be an ungracious rebel. My friend Stacey is a master and I love watching her parent little Kaile.

Hawaiian Word:
Koho: choice

Beach Walk 632 – Island Adventure

Beauty Alert!!!

We had friends visiting and borrowed the Foti family canoe, the Waʻa Lele, and paddled out the Mokulua Islands. The sunshine and the water and the colors are just beautiful! Dan Brown brought his HERO camera rig for the canoe, Mindy Clark of outriggercanoe.blogspot.com steered us, and friends Jeff and Carlos (you met them in Episode 369 along with Stacey (Episode 296) and Kaile (Episode 572, and I had a great trip. Secret Cameraman and Lexi rounded out the beach crew.

FWIW, Shane (Episode 445 The Secret) spent 10 hours editing this episode. We have fabulous music from Cubworld – who will be on the show in a couple of weeks! Please go buy his music here.
