Beach Walk 677 – An Investment in Friendship

We are still traveling hence the light shows this week. We filmed this last week so we would all have an extra dose of beautiful Hawaii! It’s about a different way of looking at love, using friendship rather than romance as the guide. Ever notice how we treat friends better than lovers, once the relationship has been around for a while? I think we sometimes expect too much of a partner, as if somehow love means losing me in favor of your wishes. This episode was inspired by something my mom told me – and her birthday is this weekend by the way. We’ll be honoring her 84 years of determination and self-reliance, generosity and indeed good friendship.

Beach Walk 475 – Radical Friendship

Friendship has implied meanings, and it’s not easy to step out of the normal expectations.

I recently had a chance to learn that allowing people to have their private times can actually enrich the relationship. It’s easy to make up stories in the absence of information, but I strongly recommend against it.

I could have worked up many scenarios during my friend’s recent “timeout” and made a judgment about what her timeout meant. I would have been wrong. And that would have left me ill-prepared for the day she emailed and said she wanted to hang out together again. Radical friendship can mean leaving someone you love completely alone and trusting her to work things out.

That’s my nephew Jordan in today’s episode. He’s a great boogie boarder!
