Beach Walk 599R – Homage to Age

I have not always had the most self confidence.

But I must say the older I get, the more comfortable I am living in my own skin, viewing life through my own eyes, all instead of worrying what others think or how I should perform.

I wonder if this feeling of deep-seated comfort could somehow be passed on, downloaded, or shared with younger people, and if so, how that might transform the world. I personally spent so much energy just managing my worries, many of which at this stage in life I see as utterly trivial!

Maybe the sheer force in numbers and rebelliousness of the baby boomers is transforming the idea that it is more fun to be young. In fact, I do seem to be aware of far more multi-generational friendships than ever before. Is that true for you? Do you find getting older “a good thing”?

P.S. Shane and Rox are traveling this week so please enjoy some of our Beach Walks Classic Episodes!

Here’s the second part of the Honolulu Pearls interview with the military wahine paddlers.

h3. About Today’s Show

Steve from Texas called in on the conch line wanting to know what it is that makes some people act young, while others seem to age quickly. The women have several responses! In my book, it’s definitely a mind and body deal: thinking positive helps and staying active seems to also. To paraphrase Bernie Siegel, “Pessimists may have a more accurate view of reality but optimists live longer and have more fun.”

To add the Beach Walks twist, to me it doesn’t matter if you are a 20-year old in a 50-year old body or vice versa. We tend to think the former is “better” but really, it’s just one of those personal preferences we have. Each person really does have the freedom to beat themselves to a pulp (as we fitness fanatics tend to do!) or enjoy a life a leisure on the couch, or anything in between. 🙂 Many deep dark brooding souls have created masterpieces, and it’s hard to predict how each day will turn out. For me, the main point is having the freedom to choose.

Beach Walk 139 – What’s Age Got to Do With It?

h3. About Today’s Show

A night time summer walk on the beach, with a nearly full moon rising in the distance. What a great time to tell a secret! My secret cameraman is 14 years younger than I am. Or you could say I am 14 years older than he is. Either way you look at it, age is irrelevant for us. We are drawn to the person, not the person’s age. What’s the use in thinking that when I started college, he was starting kindergarten?!

I have a history of hanging out with people af many different ages. One of my dearest friends of all was Valentina Belova. She was over 40 years older than I was, yet we had a most amazing friendship! She taught me ballet, and she taught me to love life in her own, carefree and dramatic way.

Kids meanwhile are so amazingly capable. We don’t give them enough credit I think! Check out this original song and video these kids from Selsted School produced to save their school.

What’s age got to do with it? Hardly anything at all as it turns out for me.
