Beach Walk 622 – The Sweetness of Sleep

Sleep. Sleep is the nectar of the week! Get some if you can.

I watched an episode of Sixty Minutes explaining how interrupted or insufficient sleep can lead to premature aging. Many people have been making fun of the death by blogging article in the NY Times but the underlying story included people who feel the need to be up 24/7 (internet time) to stay at the top of their game.

Hawaiian word:
Hiamoe: sleep
Hiamoe iki: nap

What a sweet surprise seeing the basenji pup getting a little camera action in your BW episode this morning 🙂 Regarding the topic at hand, it is said that if you fall asleep in less than five minutes, then that is a clue you’re not getting enough sleep. I think too many of us these days will run on fumes and kick in auto-pilot on some days. Not a healthy scenario. Thank you for sharing this most interesting topic with us. It’s something to think about – or better yet, dream about!

Rox, the poem ‘It’s about time’, by Michael Iva http://www.designtaxi.com/features.jsp?id=383
addresses this issue of lack of quality sleep better than anything I have ever seen.

WHY, because you and I and everyone else today are TIME POOR.

Check it out, when you have time.
    Buddy

  3. I think I’ll take a nap! The sound of the waves seemed to sooth my soul a little extra today. Thanks!

  4. @Susan – thanks for the pup ID – I am pretty clueless about dog breeds. Definitely a lot of people running on fumes.

@Buddy – I read the poem and agree. Technology has robbed us of time in exchange for the ability to create amazing things. Now it is *time* to learn how to set priorities. That is what I am embarking on, inspired by Mr. Warhol’s voice of “So?” whispering in my ear.

@Orville – How was your nap?

  5. One theory is that we really live in the Fourth Dimension – tall, wide, and deep are the first three. Time is the fourth – nothing can exist for zero seconds … so, even the old notion of what dimension we exist in is changed by the factor of time.

Just a thought … until that time … Earl J.

  6. Sleep….ah it is a wonderful thing ! Unfortunately it is something that is a rare comodity in my house. Single ,working Mom of a very active toddler 🙂
