Beach Walk 604 OTR – Swimming at SXSW

I am barely awake in this episode…as co-mingling with 10,000 geeks at the SXSW Interactive Conference kept me on the run for long days! I was thrilled to join Chris Brogan, Chris Heuer, and Jeremiah Owyang on a panel discussion. Please enjoy a few tips for creating mindfulness in the midst of massive energy!

Thank heaven for some rooftop restoration at our hotel. Plus you get to meet a few of the peeps!

Brrr– and to think that last month (Feb) it reached 90 degrees for a couple of days in Austin…go figure Texas weather! Glad that you gained so much from your experiences at SXSW, but were also able to have the Omni rooftop pool for some needed replenishment too. Wonderful angles and overview shots in this segment — Shane remains a master behind the camera!!

  2. Rox – it was great to meet you in person! I look forward to staying in touch with you on Twitter. Also, thanks for the link love. I’ll be reciprocating in my wrap up post today!

    Best,
    Aaron (@astrout)

  3. That floor with the pool is cool! Sounds like you’ve had a good time. 🙂

If you are ever in Chicago go up to the top floor of the Harold Washington Library. Most of the floors are just book stacks. A library it is of course! But one day I went to the top floor. I was looking for an exhibit that was there and lo and behold, there was this very cool atrium with some palm trees. Since it was rather out of the way, there were very few people there… it was sort of an oasis.

  4. The highlight was meeting you!!

  5. its not quite Lanikai but I’m sure it was very relaxing and refreshing…Shane great job producing this episode

  6. @susan – you were the one to tell me about this pool! Mahalo.

@Aaron – you are on it! Thanks for following the link and leaving a comment. We are working on some ideas…I hope to be in touch with you in a few months.

@Orville This sounds wonderful! Please help me remember the next time I am in Chicago. (No immediate plans…)

@Beth Kanter – mutual admiration society! Ditto to you for my comment to Aaron.

@Bob from Canada – it’s the Beach Walks state of mind, if not state of place. 🙂

  7. Thanks for the kind words everyone. But, actually, I can only take credit for holding the camera for a few minutes.

Rox did ALL the editing and photo collection on this episode. I didn’t touch it. In fact, I’m seeing if for the first time today, Thursday.

Nice job, Rox! Very nice that you took the time to gather all those images from the conference. This episode had a nice mix of the calmness and refocusing you strive for in your swims as well as the frantic nature of the energy of SxSW.

Even more impressive is that you did this while on the road back to Florida. You never cease to amaze me.

  8. my apologies to Rox…there I go assuming again…excellent job and real good camera work as well…lol

  9. Rox, it was so great meeting you at SXSW! And yes, I totally agree, it was a wonderful, chaotic energy in that convention center. So invigorating, yet so draining by the end of the day. I’m glad that you found a little piece of zen to start your day 🙂

  10. Loved this video with our beautiful city in the background — and disappointed I did not have the opportunity to meet you while you were here for SxSW. Another conference, then …..

  11. Katherine says

PLEASE tell me the pool was heated! 🙂
    K

  12. Oh Yes, it was heated!

  13. It technically may have been heated but wasn’t heated enough for me!

  14. Hey Rox and Shane…

Love your beachwalks tv. How do you do that? What kind of camera? Are you using a Mac to put all this together with music and all? I’m really curious as I’d like to copy you somewhat as I really travel a lot.

I’m sorry I missed not seeing you in Austin as I live about 45 min away and didn’t realize your coming until after the fact.

Well, all is not lost. I’m wanting to come to Hawaii in August and have lots of questions about is it a good time etc? I’ve got a week so what are some gotta do things etc?

    Thanks in advance…John

  15. @John Young – I think we have been tracking some of this conversation over on the reef. For our gear, look in the Links in the upper right for “Gear and Software We Use.” Will be GREAT to meet you in August; things to do? A great question to pose on the reef though I recommend a daily swim, surf lessons, hiking, a museum or two and hearing some of our local musicians like Kanoa and Mighty J!

  16. it was heated

  17. 6 months later Update: I am more in love with my approach than ever. There is SO much at SXSW … no way to even dent it. So being able to swim through the seas and navigate to the places that call to me worked really well for me.

  18. Thank you so much for sharing this video. I look forward to meeting you at BlogWorld in September, wow that is only next week 🙂
